Staff in all areas were excellent.
Staff in all areas were excellent. Used the gym rather than the pool this time around preferring to chill out more than usual in the main lounge area. Food in the restaurant was lovely and the breakfast had almost everything you would want. If you want to eat out there are a number if options. Over our two visits we had excellent meals in The Mandarin (great team), The Cross Keys (Weatherspoons), Number 56 cafe (local favourite) Green Tree Hotel and The Crown.

Attractive riverside walks; castles within walking or driving distance; the town has good quality coffee shops and some gift shops; not far from Edinburgh if wanting to go further afield. Town has health centre and hospital. Also theatre. Some of town's attractions do not open until Easter.

A lovely wee town still blessed with many individual shops and supermarkets for self caterers. Also a good choice of eating-out places. For the fitter people or those with dogs there are many walks available and with a car there other locations to visit reasonably close by.

What's not to like?
What's not to like? We are regular visitors becuase we love Pebbles is has lots of really good independant shops, we save up shopping to do there and has great Theatre in the Eastgate worth planning round shows. The town is set in a bowl surrounded by beautiful hills and the surrounding countryside is very beautiful, great for cycling and walking. It is quick and easy to get to Edinburgh for day out. It has a regular bus service into Edinburgh and the surrounding countryside which also carries bikes too. We used to be able to go to the Fringe Festival and get back on late bus after a show but sadly that service is no longer available but buses do still run into the late evening.

We have been to Peebles before and love it for the gorgeous independent shops. The surrounding area is beautiful. This visit we used it as a base for visiting Edinburgh's Fringe Festival. Hotel prices in August remain the same in Peebles unlike in Edinburgh where they double! There is direct bus service from Peebles to the city centre and the Park and Ride at Straiton is efficient and convenient - and cheap!! A £2 bus fare, including parking, compared with £5 per hour in Edinburgh. It was also a lot less stressful than driving around the city. Dinner at The Horseshoes was wonderful.
The apartment is wonderful! The location is ideal for a visit to Peebles, the view from the front over the green and the river makes a good people watching spot. It's a couple of minutes walk to the high street with all of its lovely shops and restaurants. All of the equipment, fittings and furnishings are of the highest standard which made for a very comfortable stay. Communications with our host, Julie were excellent too. Stay here you won't regret it!!
My partner and I walked to Peebles on the Cross Borders Drove Road and this was an excellent place to relax after a long day. I was expecting a quaint B-and-B because of the property's age, but I ended up in a very smart and sophisticated room with great facilities and a full restaurant downstairs. Although I didn't require it, it was wheelchair-accessible, including the bathroom. Very satisfied.
Location was good and hotel is what you would expect from a 2 star hotel.Easy check in and a private car park at back, which is a must in Peebles.Breakfast was good and the fry up freshly made.Loved the fried eggs and mushrooms. The price was very competitive with other hotels(Barony castle hotel was almost £165 for one night and similar standard of hotel.double in price in last few years).
Staff were amazing and very friendly, nothing seemed too much trouble.
The quality of the food and presentation was excellent and great value for money.
The breakfast was substantial and excellent quality.
Free car parking and right in the centre of a beautiful Scottish town with great wee family run businesses up and down the high street.
Lovely comfortable, clean hotel with excellent facilities. The staff were very friendly and efficient. Food was very good. Hotel is well positioned for a short drive into Edinburgh or an easy single bus ride in avoiding a costly stay in the city. Only 4 miles from the beautiful town of Peebles. Would definitely stay here again.
The host, Barry, was really helpful and easy to get a hold of when we needed him. He went out of his way to try and sort some issues that were out of his control.
The property is cosy and has lots of character, and is in the perfect location for the high street and Peebles in general.
Great little place and aptly named! Lovely and warm, small but all we needed for a weekend stay in Peebles. Both the main bed and the pull-out in the living room were very comfy. The hosts were very responsive to any questions we had. They'd even left us a bottle of wine, so kind!
Location, beautiful hotel, impressive restaurant, nice activities, great gin from onsite distillery, Gin staff were exceptional, very enthusiastic . Entertainment live music in cocktail bar. Ten mins walk to Peebles town. Close to glentress if mountain biking.
Lovely hotel in a wonderful setting with lots of outside space, ideal if you have a dog ,quality of food excellent. Staff attentive and friendly. Good facilities including spa and golf course. Some spectacular holes on the championship course
The room (Rm 6) was outstanding. Dinner in the restaurant was delicious as was the Scottish Full Breakfast the following morning. This is the best hotel I have stayed in throughout Scotland. I will definitely make a return visit sometime.
Delicious breakfast and evening meal on the Saturday night. Staff very friendly and helpful. Hotel clean and comfortable. Would recommend to anyone to stay at The Crown - value for money and Peebles is an excellent destination.
A good old-fashioned hotel with a rambling structure and very helpful staff.
Decent food in the restaurant which was very popular.
Perfect position in the middle of Peebles with the river just behind.
Lovely hotel option for Peebles. Staff are helpful and friendly and the rooms are comfortable and clean. The breakfast is amazing, one of the best ones I have seen.
Our booking was moved from Macdonald Cardrona to the Barony Castle Hotel Peebles by the Mcdonald Cardrona for some reason so my review was for the Barony Castle
