Yohannes, the owner of Zan Seyoum Hotel, is a man with a heart of gold. I was welcomed with great love and kindness. I haven’t experienced such an abundant amount of care and attention anywhere before and I do travel a lot. Seeing all of Lalibela, every UNESCO Workd Heritage church was made easy and seamless as Yohannes had provided me with a personal guide, Abeje. The entire experience was very agreeable. Everything was clearly arranged to be a well-oiled machine for tending to every last need of which any tourist could conceive. It’s a shame the country (and tourism industry) has gone through not only the pandemic, but also a debilitating war. A treaty has been signed however and I travelled to Ethiopia not long afterward as it has always interested me and I finally had the chance to go. Not once did I ever feel unsafe. Abeje, my personal guide, with whom I spent most of my time, especially sought to my every need while touring Lalibela and beyond. I trust him and Yohannes without a single doubt. They both are family men who love to serve and take their faith in God seriously. I opened up to them my last night there about the recent loss of my wife and it was as though I were talking with loved ones I had known for years. Abeje was very insightful as well. I planned on going on another tour which goes through Abuna Yemata. He was well aware of the dangerous zones to avoid on the roads, and helped get me set up to continue my journey as safely as possible. I really would have been completely lost without him with me the entire time. I don’t usually use tour guides as I’ve done a lot of solo travel before. In this case Abeje was indispensable; I very much needed his knowledge and direction. Apart from keeping me well taken care of, Abeje was very well-versed in all things of which Lalibela is known across the world. He really gave the entire tour a deep level of historical and cultural insight.

My room was clean, spacious, quiet, and had a phenomenal sunset view. The bed was very comfortable as well. I travelled solo to Lalibela and this hotel felt very safe. The hotel manager Belay was very responsive to all my questions/concerns and helped me with everything I needed during my stay from walking me to where I wanted to go to lending me an electrical adapter. The hotel itself is around 5-7 minute tuk tuk ride from the churches (so rather close but away from the town center so it’s quiet and peaceful). I would definitely stay here again!

The rooms are even more beautiful than advertised, stunning views and gorgeous art throughout. The staff and owner were exceptionally kind and prepared an amazing sunset dinner overlooking the mountains. They booked our tour to the churches and ensured we were safely accompanied with a knowledgeable guide. A delightful experience all around!

The locatiion is in the northern part of Lalibella, still close to the churches but in a quiet neighbourhood. A stunning view from the window! Rooms are very nice. Very tasty buffet-style breakfasts are served at sisterly hotel just around the corner. Airport transfer included. Any tour you need is provided by a knowledgeable guide Girma. A lovely Habtam, working now hard on improving her English skills, is always willing to help.

My room at the Alef Paradise hotel had a really beautiful view that I could enjoy from my own little patio. The staff were all very nice and helpful and even set me up with a local guide and transport before I arrived. The free breakfast was really delicious - especially the coffee! Overall, the Alef Paradise hotel is a great value for money and I would definitely recommend to future visitors! To note: the power is only on at certain times of day (evening and potentially a few hours in the morning) but that's more a function of power in the town and not due to Alef Paradise Hotel. Just plan to charge your things at night or have a power bank with you.
