Hagia Sophia
In 537 AD, Hagia Sophia began life as a church, before becoming an Ottoman mosque in 1453. The largest cathedral in the world for almost a thousand years, this majestic building is considered one of the finest surviving examples of Byzantine architecture. Today, you can explore its vast structure from the inside with a visit to the museum that’s now housed within the walls.

Hagia Sophia itself is impressive, I certainly wouldn't recommend the so-called "museum," which is ridiculously overpriced and basically just a long, ridiculous video in a bunch of different rooms, played at the volume of a rock concert. Go watch a documentary. You'll learn a lot more.

They turned this museum into a mosque under Erdogan.
They turned this museum into a mosque under Erdogan. It has been a museum for almost 100 years, but now it is a mosque and you are not allowed to go and explore the place inside, but are confined to a small space at the ground floor of the building. Very, very sad!!

There are many many well dressed VERY friendly and helpful men willing to show you around, avoid them, do not talk to them! They are all trying to sell you something. They can get aggressive if you engage them and the try to leave, best to avoid them and keep walking.

Definitely gone down since it was turned back into a mosque from its museum status. You can't walk around snd see much of the things you were able to see before. The mosaics and freezes have been covered over again and the balconies are now out of bounds.

We had a nice tour but all of the religious items are covered. It use to be a museum but is now a mosque. However, there is a very beautiful mosque nearby, the blue Mosque, so would have been nice to see the Byzantine church in its glory. There is a great museum of Hagia Sophia that gives you information on the history and it's one of the most high tech museums I have encountered, highly recommend it.

Now that the Hagia Sofia has been designated as a mosque, entrance is free and the queues are horrendous. Try to get there before the crowds, even if it means missing breakfast - or join a reasonable-priced guided tour and skip queuing.

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Coffee and tea in the lobby are complemtary. Hotel is located only 10 to 15 minutes from the main square with Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque.
Very helpful reception staff. We were able to leave our luggage at the hotel on our last day as our train didn't leave until late afternoon. Good location for the main sites like the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque.
The hotel location is in walking distance of various attractions, such as Topkapi Palace Museum, Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque, Hop-On-Hop-Off bus stop, many shops and restaurants in very close proximity to hotel.
The hotel is in the heart of Istanbul, located only a 8min walk to historical sites such as The Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia and the Basilica Cistern. It’s very charming and has a mix of Turkish classic design with a modern touch. It’s very clean and the staff are exceptional. They sorted the transport for us to and from the airport and helped with every request we had. The breakfast was varied and delicious! Thank you Ersari hotel for making this trip very special. We will definitely come back soon!
Small, aptly designed hotel primely located right on Istiklal Street. Incredibly friendly owners & the rooftop bar has some stunning panoramic views over the Bosphorus with Topkapi palace, Hagia sophia on the other side - and the Church of st anthony just nearby.
Very good place, located near the most tourist attractions in Istanbul. 10-15 min of walking to Grand Bazar, to the center, to Hagia Sophia, Topcapi... 2 min of walking to the closest metro and tramway station.
Very friendly and helpful owner.
Do not have a parking but the owner set me up a safe spot 20 meters away from the hotel for a very fair day price.
It is very near to Sultanamet Square where most of the tourist spots are located like Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, the Basilica Cistern, even the Grand Bazaar is quiet near.
There are also a lot of restaurants and establishments in the area. Public transport is very accesible. The hotel can also help you book tours and activities if you want to go to other places outside Istanbul.
We had a great stay at Sareban Hotel Istanbul. Albeit the rooms are small, but they are very cosy and really clean. The beds were comfortable, the owners (Emir and his brother Mehmet) are superb hosts, very kind and friendly, always there to help with suggestions. Coffee and tea is always available. The hotel is in a nice and quiet location, very close (small walking distance) to the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia. Airport transfer is offered at a really good price. Highly recommend this hotel!
Perfect location only 10 minutes walk from Hagia Sophia, the parking is near the hotel, very good breakfast, clean rooms and the staff were more than perfect. For my next stay in Istanbul I will book again Zayn Otel.

Blue Mosque & Hagia Sofia are both jaw droppingly stunning inside. Avoid the huge tour group queues & go straight to the top of the line, else you'll wait for hours. I was in (in both places), in 10 minutes without being pushy.
